Recent Programs

This Year, the Friends organization has presented these programs:

  • Author Sally Rodriguez, Dallas Parks and Recreation Department historian and author of “White Rock Lake”, which chronicles the lake’s history. She shared the story of the White Rock Lake from its remarkable beginnings up to current times. Proceeds from sales of her autographed books will benefit the Dallas Park Foundation. March 24th, 2010, 1:30 pm.
  • Humorist Rose-Mary Rumbley, put entertaining at the White House into historical context, beginning with President John Adams. She shared interesting and fun historical facts about White House events, beginning with the first state dinner. “Entertainment at the White House” with Rose-Mary Rumbley took place on April 14th, 2010, 1:30 pm.
  • Columnist Dave Lieber, has been with the Fort Worth Star-Telegram for nearly 30 years. He is an award winning columnist who has used stories to change the world. His book, Dave Lieber’s Watchdog Nation, won two national book awards in 2009 and was named one of the top 10 consumer books of the year. His humorous talk was a collection of shared stories about his experiences upon moving to Texas, based on his book, “If a New Yorker Can Make It In Texas, Imagine What You Can Do!” May 15, 2010, 1:30 pm.
  • Certified Master Gardener Marian Buchanan, is a past chairman of the local unit of The Herb Society of America. She shared information on cooking with fresh herbs, growing herbs in Dallas, and other fun facts. Marian’s beautiful samples from her own garden, enthusiasm for gardening and extensive knowledge of herbs made this an entertaining and enlightening event. June 25th, 2010, 1:30 pm.
